Born February 5, 1925 in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Martha (Long) Payne, he was a lifetime area resident. George served in World War II as a fighter pilot in the Army and retired from Goodyear Aerospace in 1987. He was an avid golfer with many trophies; loved his wife of 58 years, children and pets very much.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bertha (Vorndran) Payne; son, Joseph A. Payne; and son-in-law, George Pavlich, Jr. His survivors include his two sisters, Lois Urbank of Ohio and Dorothy Porter of Florida; daughters, Rebecca Dorothy Payne and Susan Marie Pavlich; his grandchildren, George Pavlich III, Deborah Sue Pavlich and Christine Marie King, her husband, Richard; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren King; and many nephews and nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at St. Bernard-St. Mary Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
