Isaac Henry DeCourcy (1848-1909) was a son of Peter and Larissa (Mills) DeCoursey who were married at Watertown, Jefferson Co., WI on 5 Jul 1846.

Sometime in 1860's Peter DeCOURCY's teen-age son, Isaac Henry, was in a mowing machine accident. According to Isaac DeCourcy's daughter, Charlotte (DeCourcy) Thrush (1896-1980) of St. Joseph, MO, she was told that doctors wanted to amputate the leg, but someone in the family with medical knowledge (presumably Peter) saved the leg. Henceforth, Isaac Henry DeCOURCY walked with a limp.

Isaac H. DeCourcy m. 1st 12 Jun 1871 at Waseca Co., MN to Anne Emily C. Barney, dau. of John and Mary (Tracy) Barney, by whom he had 4 children. They were divorced abt 1886, and he married 2nd 1889 at Kansas City, MO to Alice SCHMITT by whom he had five more children.

Isaac Henry DeCOURCEY, son of Peter and Larrissa (MILLS) DeCOURSEY was married, 12 June 1871, at Alma City, Waseca Co., Minnesota, to Emma Anna Cornelia BARNEY, dau. of John H. and Mary Ann (TRACEY) BARNEY. (Bk.A, p.162). Witnesses were A.P. GLYE and Lucille WEATHERBEE.
Alma City was near what was known as "Peddler's Grove". "Peddlers working the county or cities nearby would stop and rest at Peddlers Grove," said Joe EUSTICE, a member of the Waseca County Historical Society. "Eventually it became a popular place for travelling merchants to congregate." The original grove was a natural place to camp as the trees provided weary travelers shelter from the prairie winds. The encampment for the traveling salesmen became a base to trade with the Indians who lived on a nearby reservation in western Waseca and eastern Blue Earth counties; and was also conveniently located along the Mankato, Wilton and Owatonna stage coach line.---As the small town began to evolve at the popular encampment, it became a rest stop for the stage coach travelers." Peter DeCOURSEY was a veterinarian and seller of patent medicines, and his son, Isaac, probably met his bride on one of the trips to Peddlers Grove from their home at Leon, Wisconsin.
