Gerry Gehres, of Newark, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Seasons Hospice of Christiana Hospital. She was 84.

Born and raised in West Jefferson, Ohio, she lived briefly in Harrod, Ohio, before moving to Grand Gorge, New York, in 1955. She was a long-time resident of Hobart (NY) and later Floral Park (NY), retiring to Delaware in 1996.

Gerry was a very talented musician specializing in piano and organ. She taught music in public schools, gave private piano lessons, and was a dedicated church musician throughout her life. She shared her musical talent with many people of all ages through the numerous musicals, concerts, and programs she organized and accompanied for church or community groups, and nursing homes.

She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States, completing several cross-country "Road Trips" along the Route 66, Route 50, Route 40, and US 30 corridors, as well as many coastal tours of lighthouses.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Gladys Long, her sister Suzanne Torres, and her son Stephen Gehres.

Gerry leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years the Rev. J. Philip Gehres; son Mark Gehres and his wife Jen of Ocean Springs, MS; daughter Rebecca Gehres of Hurst, TX; daughter Elizabeth Lukacs and her husband Tom of South River, NJ; daughter Deborah Van Varick and her husband John of Newton, NJ; daughter-in-law Donna Gehres of Euless, TX; sister Judy Biggers of Pensacola, FL; brother Jim Long and his wife Mary of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
