Obituary for Mabel Louise Barker
Mabel Louise Barker, age 84, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Manassas, Virginia.

She was born on October 12, 1933 in Ashland, Kentucky. Mrs. Barker retired after 33 years with the National Education Association in Washington, D.C. She was a resident of Virginia for 41 years and spent an additional 14 years in Pinehurst, North Carolina where she was very active in her community. Mabel was President of Weymouth Center for the Arts. She was a volunteer for the Arts Council of Moore County, Southern Pines, NC; a member of the Women of Weymouth, recognized in Who’s Who of American Women, volunteered countless hours with Calvary Church of the Nazarene, leading Children’s church, writing plays for the church musicals, decorating for the holidays, etc. She was the Director of Calvary Church Daycare and hosted the church dinners on Wednesday nights.

Mabel Barker was predeceased by her father, Rev. Charles F. May, her mother, Maggie B. May, her brothers, Rev. Howard May, Paul May, Kenneth May and Francis May as well as her sister Laura Lee Ogle.

Survivors include one son: David Aaron Barker; one daughter: Anne Elizabeth Taylor and husband Daniel; one brother: Charles Wesley May; four grandchildren: Benjamin Ross Taylor & Keeley Joy Sandvig; Brock Daniel Taylor & Ashley Elizabeth Taylor; Megan Elizabeth Schmitz & Matthew James Schmitz; David Alan Barker & Jessie Rae Vaughn.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Shenandoah Memorial Park,1270 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602.
