Abstract from Chicago Tribune (IL) obituary - January 11, 1992
Deceased Name: GIRLS BASEBALL LEAGUE FOUNDER EMERY A. PARICHY
Emery A. Parichy, 92, built Parichy Stadium, a softball palace formerly in Forest Park, sponsored the Bloomer Girls team and started the National Girls Baseball League with Charles Bidwill in 1945.
Mr. Parichy died Friday in Westlake Pavilion, Franklin Park.
Mr. Parichy in 1934 established the first museum of baseball, the Forest Park Museum, to house baseball records, books, pictures, equipment and mementos, according to the booklet ``Major First Events in a Century of Baseball,`` published in 1940. The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., began in 1939.
Born in Trenton, N.J., Mr. Parichy went to work at age 9, never played baseball and never got past the 4th grade, said his son.
Nevertheless, Mr. Parichy eventually became school board president for Proviso High School in Maywood, now Proviso East; president of the Forest Park Library Board; helped start the Forest Park Park District, and was chairman of fund-raising for Loretto Hospital, his son said.
For 65 years, Mr. Parichy operated Parichy Roofing and Shingle Co.
He built Parichy Stadium at Harlem Avenue and Harrison Street in Forest Park in 1934 and took over sponsorship of the then-amateur Bloomer Girls fast- pitch softball team in 1937.
He and Bidwill, former owner of the Chicago football Cardinals, started the National Girls Baseball League in 1945. The league had six professional teams, the Bloomer Girls, the Blue Birds, Chicks, Queens, Cardinals, and the Music Maids, said his son, but they went out of business in 1955 at about the same time the Parichy Stadium had to be torn down for the Eisenhower Expressway. The museum artifacts are kept by the family and displayed periodically, the son said.
Mr. Parichy is survived by one son and three daughters; 20 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bernardine`s Catholic Church, 7246 Harrison St., Forest Park.
