Donald G. “Butch” Barnhart, 72, of Monon, passed away surrounded by family at 1:45 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1945 in White County, IN to the late Mervin “Barney” Ray and Elizabeth Catherine Florence (Johnson) Barnhart. He was a 1963 graduate of Rensselaer High School.
Butch was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Monon American Legion, which later joined Monticello American Legion Post 260.
His marriage was to Patty Brown on September 16, 1978 in Monticello, she survives.
Butch worked for Monon Meat Packing, formerly Ward Packing as a butcher until his retirement after 45 years. He cherished time spent with his family and grandsons. Butch enjoyed attending sporting events for the grandchildren, fishing, tinkering in the shed with small engines, and playing his guitar.
Surviving along with his wife are children, Brian (wife: Mary) Pogue of Monon, Brad (wife: Wendy) Pogue of Delphi, and Heidi Barnhart (companion: Elaine Scrima) of Tampa, FL; grandsons, Zack and Hunter Pogue; sisters, Kathryn (Rick) Young of Monon, Deb Duncan (Bob Spear) of Monticello, Becky Madlung of Monticello, and Bev Lowe (Garry Blann). Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death along with his parents are three brothers, Lloyd Barnhart, Denny “Moose” Barnhart, and Virgil Barnhart.
