Emilie Waage, 69, Groton, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 1994 at St. Lude’s Midland Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen.

Her funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 2, 1994, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton, with the Rev. Dean Trapp officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Ferney, with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, in charge of arrangements.

Emilie Jones was born July 14, 1924 to Tom and Myrtle (Freeland) Jones at Groton. She grew up in the Groton area and graduated from Groton Hight School in 1942. She attended Northern State Teachers College and taught in rural Broun County schools, Putney and Ferney, from 1943 to 1958.

She married Roy Nehls, June 3, 1946, at Groton. He died in 1951. She married Jason Waage, May 18, 1954 at Aberdeen. She worked at Kolbo Dairy, Juel;s Café and Tillie’s Café, Groton. She then started the Cozy Café in August 1976 and operated that until her retirement in 1993. She lived in the Groton area all her life. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Circle.

Survivors include three sons, Tech. Sgt. Tim Waage, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; Thomas Waage, Barnard, and Rob Waage, Sioux Falls; one daughter, Patty Tastad, Groton; one brother, Kenny Swearingen, San Antonio; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one daughter and on brother.

Honorary casketbearers were Leonard Broman, Leo Kersting, Clayton Farmen, Dennis K. Larson, Harvey Fliehs Sr., John Martin Sr., merle Hanson, Richard Oliver and Larry Schelle.

Casket bearers were John T. Clark, Brian Schuring, Rob Gravatt, Craig Sternhagen, Brad Larson, Brett Olson, Brad Waage and Jay Waage.

Organist was Arlis Doeden and soloist was Julie Waage.
