Karin passed away peacefully at her home in Orinda on August 19, 2016. She was born on December 7, 1946, in Stuttgart, Germany to US Army Corporal Jack E. Goodwin of Oklahoma and Eliska "Sascha" Valkova, a refugee from Czechoslovakia. As a small child she spoke only German and played in bomb-damaged buildings in post-war Germany.

After re-enlisting in the Army, Karin's father was able to bring his family to the US when Karin was 6 years old. A sister, Dianna, soon joined the family and they traveled between the US and Germany on various Army assignments. Karin completed her first year of college in Munich, Germany. When her father retired from the Army in 1966, the family moved to Oakland, California, where Karin attended Merritt Jr. College and met her future husband, Ron Sharp.

Karin completed college at SF State with a BA in English and a teaching credential. She taught junior high school in Oakland until her first child, Shannon, was born in 1983. The family grew when her son Adam was born in 1985. Karin and Ron's first home was in Oakland, but in 1988 they moved to Orinda where she lived until her passing.

Karin was smart, funny and a committed vegetarian. She loved to read, entertain, home decorate, cook and eat good food, and travel. She visited most of Europe, India, China, Tibet, and Japan and traveled extensively throughout the US, but had a special life-long relationship with numerous friends in the village of Langsdorf, near Giessen, Germany.

Karin is survived by her husband of 34 years, and best friend of 43 years, Ron Sharp, daughter Shannon Every (Dan) of Michigan, son Adam Sharp of Orinda and grandchild Jack Every (4). She is also survived by her sister Dianna Goodwin (Michael Cohen) of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Nephews Max, Jacob and Rudi.
