Wanda Brady Yeargin passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the age of 65 after battling pancreatic cancer. Wanda was born in Elberton, Georgia on March 27, 1952 to Wilene Brady and William Brady (deceased). She graduated from Elbert County High School in 1970, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in History, a Master’s degree in Middle Grade and Early Childhood Education, and a Specialist’s degree in Educational Administration at the University of Georgia.

Wanda’s career in education spanned more than 41 years, with positions ranging from Teacher, to Assistant Principal, Principal, Staffing Director in the Division of Human Resources, Executive Director of School Improvement in the Division of Educational Leadership, Executive Director of Academic Support in the Division of Teaching and Learning, and the Director of School Operations and Support in the Division of Teaching in Learning for the Gwinnett County Public Schools. Most recently, she was working part time after retirement as the Director of Program Development, helping plan and create charter schools. Wanda was passionate about public education, and while her career grew in scope over the years, she said she was proudest of her work with students as a teacher.

Mrs. Yeargin also felt lucky to have met her best friend and future husband at the age of 13. Together, they grew up, enjoying dances and concerts, and went on to build a family of their own. She said she felt she had the best of both worlds by getting to have both a son and a daughter. Most recently, she and Mike became grandparents to two granddaughters, with whom Wanda enjoyed playing dress-up, doing crafts, and making homemade ice cream.

The family will receive friends from 1PM-4PM on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 at the McDonald and Son Funeral home in Cumming, Georgia, followed by services to celebrate her life at 4PM the same day. Bill Lowe will officiate. Her burial and graveside services will be at Rock Branch Baptist Church
