Norman A. Burnett, St. Joseph, passed away at a local healthcare center.

He was born in Hutchison, Kan. The family moved to St. Joseph where he attended grade school and then returned to Hutchison for his high school years. There he met his future wife, Edna Mae (Broyles) Burnett and they were married on Dec. 23, 1943 in Lebanon, Tenn.

He spent three years in the Army Air Corps during WWII. The couple returned to St. Joseph, where he was president of the local Hertz Rent-a-Car Corporation. He served many years as secretary and president of the South Side Lions Club receiving awards for perfect attendance. He was a long time member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, serving as a deacon.

He is preceded in death by Edna, his wife of 52 years; a sister, Marion (Burnett) Prieb; and his parents, Allen and Harriett (Norman) Burnett.

He is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Linda and William Mattoon, Springfield, Vt.; Richard and Debra Burnett, Liberty, Mo.; Patricia and Howard Pierce, Hartford, Conn.; Stephen and Diane Burnett, Tampa, Fla.; Kathleen and Jack McCrary, St. Joseph; Janet and Danny Stanley, Lodi, Calif.; James and Devina Burnett, St. Joseph; a brother, Will Burnett, Topeka, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Wyatt Park Christian Church, under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
