Jewel was born on September 23, 1928, in Jonesboro, AR, to Ruffin and Florence (Bobbitt) Gambill. Jewel graduated from Jonesboro Senior High School in 1947. She married John A. Rushing in 1948. They moved to Peoria, IL, in 1950.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Danny Johnston) Rushing of Peoria; grandchildren, Matt Milburn of Marion, IA, Ryan Milburn of Seattle, WA, Jonna Dalasky of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Coreena Johnston and Jason Johnston of Peoria; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Breanna, Abby Milburn of Marion IA, and Michael (Caitlin) Packard of Peoria; nephew, David Harkness of Peoria; and niece, Charolette McArthur of Jonesboro, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister and oldest daughter, Brenda Milburn.
Jewel was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed her role as a housewife and stay-at-home mother. In 1991, she started working for the American Greeting Card Company and did so for eight years. In 2000, she began working for CVS Pharmacy in Peoria as a greeting card merchandiser, retiring in 2007.
Jewel was a member of the Dayton Avenue Baptist Church
At her request, there will be no services and cremation rites have been accorded. She will be buried in Springdale Cemetery.
