Passed away Sunday evening at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville.
Daughter of William and Mable Zimmerman Steigerwalt.
Married Alfred Meyer May 19, 1951. He preceded her in death.
Millie graduated from high school at the age of 16 and from Cornell University in 1944 with a degree in nursing. She was the head nurse of the pediatric unit at New York Hospital in New York City, before moving to Fort Wayne in 1949 where she met Alfred Meyer.
She had a long nursing career before retiring at the age of 72 from Lutheran Hospital's newborn nursery. She then moved to Crawfordsville to be closer to her grandchildren. Mildred attended Christ Lutheran Church, Crawfordsville, where she served on the worship committee, quilted and sang in the choir. She was very active until the last years of her life traveling and hiking with her family, volunteering in the community delivering library books to shut ins, Binky Patrol quilting and serving as a Pink Lady at the hospital.
She is survived by her three children, Beth (Mark) Bishton of Bloomfield, Dennis (Paulea) Meyer of Ft. Wayne and Sue (Joel) Amstutz of Crawfordsville. Millie had three grandchildren, Molly (Taylor) McGaughey, Kevin Amstutz and Jana Amstutz; and one great-grandchild, Finn McGaughey.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Humphries and Louis (Doc) Aldrich; and an infant brother.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, with Pastor Michael Blodgett officiating, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gar Creek, at 1910 Berthaud Road, New Haven.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Crawfordsville, Quilt Ministry or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid.
