Arthur Arnold Rogers, Sr. passed away into the arms of Jesus on September 27, 2017 in his sleep in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was 94 years old.

Art was born in Merryville, Louisiana on August 26, 1923 to Jasper Seth Rogers and Lydia Burke Rogers. He was raised in Beaumont, Texas until entering the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served in Japan and Australia before being Honorably Discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was very proud to be a WWll Veteran. He enjoyed the service and had many stories to tell his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about being in the Navy.

Art met and married Billie Rae Smith in Eureka, CA, not long after his discharge. They knew each other only 1 month and 4 days when they married! Dad passed away on their 70th Anniversary. Mom told him every day in the past couple months when he didn't want to eat, that he had to live until their 70th Anniversary on September 27th. He obeyed her (as usual) with an hour to spare! They had a magical life together, never failing to say I love you and kissing good morning and good night every day.

He worked as a Gas Serviceman for PG&E in Fortuna for many years. Former customers would greet him and tell their families how he had saved their lives. He retired at the age of 57 so he would have time to fish, as many of his friends would retire and pass away soon afterward. And fish he did until about 10 years ago when he could no longer pull in his own fish. He loved to fish in his son-in-law, Cliff's boat on Humboldt Bay with his grandsons, Shiloh, Seth, and Luke Wilson; And later with his great- grandsons, Braden and Ben.

Art also liked to deer hunt. Although in later years his daughter Lydia would take him to McDonalds each day for a cup of coffee (he loved McDonalds coffee), then take him for a drive around Loop Rd in Fortuna to look at the deer. He liked that as much as he did when he hunted them. Sometimes we would go to Bridgeville and back over to Freshwater on longer rides, but always scouting for deer to see.

He loved God and raised his family in Church. He was a great example of a Godly Man to his friends and family. He attended Rohnerville Assembly of God Church for many years, and was on the Church Board for many years also.

Dad dearly loved his family and they him. His children were honored to call him dad, he taught us through example and he always made time for us. Pop especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They called him, "Their Hero". From teaching them to drive on the river bar to making sure he took them for swimming lessons in Eureka and Arcata, and how to row his boat while he sat back and relaxed and fished! He and mom really dotted on their great grandson, Braden Paine. He was the Apple of Their Eye! Braden gave them both many hours of joy and companionship.

Art was predeceased by Arthur A. Rogers, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Billie Rae, daughters Lydia Rogers-Wilson (Cliff) of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Molly Cook (John) of Hydesville, Calif., Mike (Julie) of Folsom, Calif., and daughter in law Zella Rogers of Southern California. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren: Heather Peugh (Scott) Ariel and Aurora, Adalisha Bailey (Mike) Jermey, Donavan and Damian, Jessica Paine and Braden, Shiloh Wilson (Amy) Tyler and Ben, Michael Rogers (Sandra) Mish and Xander, Seth Wilson (Amanda) Maycie and Madison, Luke Wilson (Courtney) Jack, Adalaide , Heath Cook (Jodi) Haley, Brendan and Cooper, J.C. Cook (Cassie) Devon, and Justen Cook. Art is also survived by a sister, Mildred Brekinridge of Oklahoma.

Art and Billie enjoyed living in Fortuna for many years. On February 7th Art fell and broke his hip moving to Klamath Falls on March 28th to live with his daughter Lydia (his caregiver) and her family.

Private family services were held on Oct 4 at the Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna. If you would like to send a card to Billie her address is: Billie Rae Rogers, 5625 Bel Aire Dr. Klamath Falls, Oregon 97603.
