The following obituary was provided by FAG Contributor: Robert Fockler (50788310):

JOHN KEEDY FOCKLER , 90, died at his home in Germantown, TN, on May 13, 2016. The son of S. Mitchell and Mary (Keedy) Fockler, John was born on January 6, 1926, in Hagerstown, Maryland, where he grew up. He received his bachelor's degree in Management Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1949. After graduation he stayed at Carnegie Tech working in the public relations department where he honed his writing skills. Later, he accepted an offer from McGraw Hill Publishing Company to join the staff of Business Week magazine as a writer in the Industrial Production department and moved to New York City in 1952. He soon met Barbara Ann Rossland of Worcester, Massachusetts, and the two were married in 1954.

After a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, John returned to Business Week where he served as assistant bureau chief in Pittsburgh and later bureau chief in Cleveland, Ohio. John left Business Week in 1964 to join the staff of the Cleveland Development Foundation, a new nonprofit agency formed to assist urban renewal efforts and the clearance or renovation of substandard housing. During this period, he earned an MBA in economics from Case Western Reserve University. When he was not studying, he could often be found at the front of the classroom. Over the years, he taught economics and business communications at Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland State University, and Baldwin Wallace University.

In 1974 John was recruited by civic and business leaders in Memphis, Tennessee, to lead what would become the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. As president of the Foundation, he crafted many of the policies and procedures that are still in use today. While serving as president of the Foundation, John studied at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis, earning a JD in 1982. John retired from the Foundation in 1989 and devoted himself to elder law, which he practiced until his retirement following his 80th birthday in 2006.

A "cradle" Methodist, John was active in the Methodist church at all levels, local church, district, and conference. For the Memphis Conference, he served as Conference Lay Leader and for many years as a member of the Council on Finance and Administration. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee.

John was an avid fan of all sports, football and baseball being his favorites. He loved to read and discuss provocative issues usually pertaining to history, politics, or religion. He greatly enjoyed travel, both within the U.S. and abroad. Favorite trips included the Norwegian coastal steamer and the journey through the upper Amazon.

John is survived by Barbara, his wife of 62 years, and by his four children and their families: John Keedy Fockler, Jr.; Robert Mitchell Fockler; and Ellen Fockler Gonzales.

The family will receive friends at Germantown United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow immediately.
