VETERAN--Army Air Corps, World War II

Elza Wayne Prowell was a descendant of Stephen Hopkins and Thomas Rogers of the 1620 Mayflower Voyage thru his mother, Anna Grace Lafferty Prowell; he had one sister, Thelma Grace Prowell Flinn. Wayne married Martha Jane Corbin on February 4, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Newton, Kansas. She was a descendant of 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims John Howland and John Tilley thru her father, Howard Corbin. Wayne Prowell was a 1938 graduate of Olivet High School, Olivet, Kansas. He received a basketball scholarship to Fort Scott Junior College and went on to graduate from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas in 1952, receiving a bachelors degree in education. Wayne would do graduate work at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas and Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas. He taught in Kansas schools for 32 years. His ashes are buried in Lincoln Cemetery with his family--His wife's ashes are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kansas, with her family.
