George Elder is the son of James Elder and Martha Cole Elder. Martha passed away in 1759 and his father remarried the same year to Elizabeth Maips.
He married Sarah Vogan 30 Sept 1763. She was captured by the Indians and lived with them for 2 years before being released. She gave birth to 2 children while with the Indians. There is a book written about her capture. They had 8 children - with a couple of them after her capture.
Their children were: William, John, Robert, Isabell, Margaret, James, Jane, and Margaret. The first Margaret died at the age of 3.
