Gary Lee Bloom, 80, died October 22, 2017 at his home in OKC. He was born September 2, 1937 in Alva, OK to Clifford and Mary (Alexander) Bloom. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Donald Bloom. Gary received his Juris Doctorate in Law from OCU and spent 28 years as an IRS Chief Counsel Attorney before his retirement in 2007. He loved the sport of baseball, starting at age 8, and played through American Legion ball. He went on to play at Phillips University in Enid where he was named the 1961 NAIA 2nd base All American. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to play baseball while serving in Germany. In addition to baseball, he enjoyed woodworking in his home shop. His greatest love was his family and his faith. He was a longtime member of Council Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Paula; daughters, LaDawn Bloom of Beaverton, OR, Carrie McCrea and husband John Buzzelli of Overland Park, KS; sons, Brandon Bloom and wife Aimee of Dallas, TX, and Bryan Bloom and wife Sarah of Norman, OK; and 6 grandchildren, Autumn Lorca-Merono and husband Tony, Ellison and Sula Bloom, Griffin and Lucy Bloom, and Maggie McCrea.
