Dorothy May Crum, aged 89, passed from this life peacefully to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Hearthstone Healthcare facility. She was born in Monroe County on May 20, 1928, to Thomas and Alice (East) Crum. She was a lifelong resident of Indian Creek Township and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1946.

Upon graduation, she married a handsome Marine, Walter C. Jones. She was married to the love of her life for sixty-seven years before his passing in July of 2013. Together they had four children.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and they were her main priority. She especially took great pleasure in spending time with an exceptional gift of hospitality. She had a passion for entertaining company and preparing big family dinners. She was one of 10 children and hosted an annual reunion for her extended family for many years. Sometimes as many as 100 people would congregate on the family farm for a day of food, fun, and fellowship. She also enjoyed quilting and needlework as she lovingly made quilts for each one of her children. She liked getting together with friends to play Euchre and socialize.

She worked outside the home briefly and cooked for Kirksville Elementary School, at Crane Naval Deport, and R.C.A. before retiring.

She was an active member of Walker’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the Indian Creek Lions Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Sharon Marie Johnson, four sisters, Helen Anderson, Mildred Stevens, Gladys Clowers, and Mary Canada; four brothers, Warren, Helmer, Jacob, and Chester Crum. She is survived by one brother, Marion Crum of Franklin, Indiana; her children, Connie (Larry) Cassidy, Phillip (Jeannie) Jones, and Kenneth (Melody) Jones; son-in-law, Paul Johnson, all of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
