Heaven just became brighter, a little friendlier, with a lot more talking and hugging going on.

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and everyone’s favorite loving neighbor and friend, Ken Day, of South Jordan – Daybreak – Utah, passed away quietly and peacefully without a mark on him on Monday, October 16th, 2017, surrounded by family, beautiful music, love, and happiness for his new journey.

Ken was born on July 27th, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Elden Merrill Day and Wanda Richards. He grew up in Rose Park, attended West High, served a mission in the California Mission, attended the University of Utah… although his blood ran BLUE.

In 1973, he married “The Sunshine of His Life”…Debi Garner. She had known him since 9th grade when he dated her best friend’s sister. She was the best thing that ever happened to him. Together they quickly had 5 amazing children: Ryan, Courtney, Austin, Brittany and Morgan—and along the way added five spouses: Misty, Beau, Amy, Eric and Toni. They had many many more surrogate children who visited, stayed and even lived at their home over the years. Nothing brought Ken more joy than being best friends with each of his kids, and they all absolutely knew he loved them. Ken and Debi were pillars of every community they’ve lived in: from Fort Union, to South Jordan, to Daybreak.

Ken was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and loved every calling he ever had. He and Debi just completed a 14 month Service Mission at Sagewood at Daybreak—a retirement home, that was a highlight of their years together.

Ken and Debi were successful business owners of Custom Carport Designs, that they built from scratch together. They built their first carport together while their first three little babies played on the grass. His two wonderful sons will now carry on the business and his legacy, with Debi as their advocate.

Ken’s most enduring qualities are the way he treated every person he ever met, with a handshake, which became a hug, and quickly a kiss for anyone and everyone. Once, after some kindness and a kiss from Ken, the dog catcher let the family dog out of his jail cell in the truck.

With a twinkle in his eye, and a smile on his face, he was always ready and willing to lend a hand, serve, give, even dig up your yard and fix your sprinklers, tow away your garbage, plan and execute pioneer trek, attend a soccer, baseball, or a dance event, laugh until it hurt, dance at baptism parties, hold your hand in a handshake while looking deep into your eyes as if to say “I love you.” He also loved anyone who would listen endlessly to his upcoming jobs, prospective projects, and invention dreams.

To know him is to love him. Everyone felt they were Ken’s best friend. What manner of man is this? One of the greatest God has given us. His greatest accomplishment is his eternal family, a celestial companionship with his beautiful wife, and his Christlike example.

He is survived by his sweet wife Debi, son Ryan and Misty Day, daughter Courtney and Beau Carlson, son Austin and Amy Day, daughter Brittany and Eric Wilkinson, and daughter Morgan and Toni Burdi. His precious grandchildren: Brynn, Kassi, Kaden, Cavin, Sawyer, Delaney, Ashton, Tate, Landon, Ava, Ali, Saylor, Boden and Beckham. His sisters, Margaret and (Ken) Peterson, Barbara Lewis, Janeen and (Sean) Landram. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Elden and Wanda Day, step-father Bill Hansen, and a younger brother, Duane Day.

We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of love, concern, prayers, fasting, texts, calls, visits, and messages on social media. We thank you for the hundreds of acts of kindness….we felt it everyday. All these acts of reaching out to us makes us want to be better people every day of our lives.

Ken was such a giving person and he was also a donor. Two very special people will be able to see again because of Ken’s cornea’s. May we all see the world a little differently, the way Ken would. In his honor, may we see the good in all, see everyone as a friend, see everyone as someone to love, see everyone as a Child of God.

Ken, to know you are gone only makes us want to live life like you did, enough to join you on your street in Heaven, next to your mansion with the perfect lawn and ever present welcoming smile and love.

Funeral services will be held on Friday October 20th, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., at the LDS Founders Park Stake Building located at 11685 South Kestrel Rise Rd South Jordan, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday night from 6:00-8:00 P.M., at the same location. There will not be a viewing prior to the service Friday.

Please share your favorite memories of Ken on his Facebook wall. We will be compiling a book for his family so that we can always remember this amazing man.
