Vera Ione (Lancaster) Churcher was born on May 2, 1924 in Hickman County, Tennessee, the daughter of Samuel Benjamin Lancaster (1888-1978) and Mary "Elizabeth" (Harper) Lancaster (1895-1971).
She graduated from Hickman County High School and attended David Lipscomb College.
Vera was married to US Air Force Major, Albert George Churcher and was a member of the Church of Christ and attended church in Brentwood Hills. She made a career with the federal government and was retired after 22 years of service, which allowed her to live in many places including the Philippine Islands.
After retiring from the government she did volunteer work at Saint Thomas Hospital having given over 6000 hours of her time in many different services. She also served as president of the Volunteer Services 1984 and 1985, and during 9 years of that time she was employed in the Public Relations Office.
Vera was an avid outdoor person and enjoyed hiking, camping, water skiing and golf, and she gave much of her time and financial support to helping build the Cumberland Trail in East Tennessee. Vera was also an active member of the Armed Forces Officers Wives Club and served on the board in many different capacities including being president during 1981-82.
A resident of Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee, she passed away on October 21, 2017 after a long illness at the age of 93.
Preceded in death by her parents, she was survived by her husband, a married daughter, a son, married brother, sister, a grandson, four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral Services were held at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home, and burial was in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
