Clifton Arvin Cook, born January 6, 1933, was gently and honorably released to return to his Heavenly Father on August 5, 2017 after completing a long and faith-filled life. He is reunited with his eternal sweetheart, Darlene Johnson Cook, who passed away October 22, 2011.
Arvin was born in Salt Lake City into the loving home of Clifton and Maurine (Stokes) Cook. He was blessed by the love of his siblings: Louis, Maurice, Ruth, Ruby, Becky and their spouses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Maurine Cook; brother, Louis Cook; son, James Arvin Cook; and beloved wife, Darlene. He is loved and will be missed by his children and their spouses: Keldon (Vickie) Cook, Holly (Ken) Peterson, James Arvin (Julie) Cook, Wendy (Brent) Anderson, Daniel (Melanie) Cook and Judy (Matthew) Binns.
At the time of his passing Arvin and Darlene had 26 grandchildren and 28-great- grandchildren who love them both and will strive to carry on their legacy of faith and love.
Arvin graduated from Granite High School and Granite LDS Seminary. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Arvin was also a percussionist and participated in the university marching band.
As a young man he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably in the Korean War. He was also an Eagle Scout and loved volunteering for the BSA as a Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for many years.
Arvin was a mathematician and an IBM man; a programmer and coder. He spent most of his career working for the University of Utah as Manager of Operations in the Data Processing Department for Students, Alumni and Administration. He was selected for the university's National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, in 1984 for his work in data processing.
Arvin and Darlene were longtime residents of Murray and loved supporting their children through many endeavors at Murray High. They loved taking their children to the mountains for camping and hiking adventures. Arvin learned to fish from his father-in-law. He enjoyed accompanying his children and grandchildren on their fishing trips to Payson and Mirror Lakes. He loved to pitch horseshoes, like his grandfather. He loved to play, coach and umpire for softball, basketball and little league baseball.
Arvin served in the Temple and lived a devoted life as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Stake Missionary in Houston, Texas and enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. He especially relished his callings as a teacher. He was dedicated to genealogy research and Temple work.
His favorite part of family history work was taking his grandchildren to the Temple to do baptisms for the dead. He had a valiant heart and an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ.
