By 1786 he had migrated to Frederick County in Western Maryland where he purchased a large plantation. Here he married. He bought 150 acres of land in Washington County, MD "westward of Ft. Cumberland" in 1790. In 1792 he purchased 50 acres in Alleghany County. In the spring of 1806 he posted all his lands for sale. On May 10, 1806 he left for Kentucky.
In Kentucky, he purchased a farm 3 miles east of Georgetown on the Georgetown Paris Rd. This is where he and many of his family are buried.
