Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr William Edward Burks, 72, Gadsden, who died Thursday, Aug 30, 2000. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. The Rev Jimmy Bailey and Dr Michael Yopp will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr Burks was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was a retired police lieutenant with the Gadsden Police Department with 23 years of service. He was a member of Ed Christopher masonic lodge.
Mr Burks is survived by his wife, Thelma Burks; children, Brenda (Kenneth) Williams, Smiths Institute, Dale Burks, Sevierville, Tenn, Johnny (Karen) Burks, Gadsden, Deborah (Sonny) Miller, Southside, and Penny (Glenn) Pondick, Southside; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Jean (Curtis) Lee, Attalla; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Lee, Glenn Lee, Rick Lee, Warren Lee, Michael Williams and Tony Williams.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff of sixth floor and CCU at Riverview Regional Medical Center, Dr S Sancheli, Dr V Tummale, Dr J Campbell, Dr D Parmar, Dr R Harrison and special friend, Hollis Willis.
