Enlisted in Revolutionary War in March of 1781, age 17, at Fredericksburg or (Fredericksburgh) Precinct, Duchess Co., New York. He enlisted as a Private Soldier in Captain Benjamin Walkers Company in the Second Regiment of the New York forces, Colonel Phillip Van Cortland, Commandant (See Pension Papers). Fought in Battle of Yorktown, Va. and engaged in Battle at surrender of Cornwallis. Discharged June 9, 1783 from (service at the ------cantoonment three or four miles from Newburg in the State of New York, that he was in the Battle in taking Cornwalte in Virginia) (See Pension Papers). Cantoonment is cantonment (temporary quarters for troops) and Newburg is Newburgh, New York. George Washington's Headquarters was located in Newburgh, New York. Root Searcher posted the following message on October 15, 2001: "Benjamin Langdon was discharged from the Second New York Regiment by George Washington himself on June 7, 1783.
