Prior to enlisting he served in the 29th Regiment. Anthony enlisted in Doon on December 15, 1915. His address at the time of enlistment was R.R. #1, Blair, Ontario and his next of kin was his son, Melvin, of the same address. He was a widower. Farmer was given as his occupation.
Anthony is connected with the 111th Battalion and transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion in England, then the 18th Battalion. He went overseas on September 13, 1916 and to the front on March 29, 1918. He fought on the Arras and Amiens sections of the western front. He was gassed at Mons on August 28, 1918 and sent to Deal War Hospital, Kent, England for three months.
He returned to Kitchener on February 1, 1919. On March 1, 1919 he started work with Dominion Tire. He died in 1938 and is buried in the Strasburg Pioneer Part Mennonite Cemetery, Kitchener."
