Conrad Sr. was born in Hussenbach (now called Linevo), Volgograd, Russia to John George and Christina Elizabeth (nee Zinn) Propp. He married Katherine Elizabeth Rothenberger in Hussenbach on Oct.15, 1892. In 1902 they immigrated to the Rhein area, where they farmed and raised their children.

Conrad Sr. and Katherine Elizabeth had 10 children (the first four were born in Hussenbach): Anne (John Ruppel), David (Dorothea Elizabeth Pister), Conrad Jr. (Margaret Els), Amalia (Conrad Rothenberger), Emilie (Waldemar Fuhr), Pauline (Rudolph Zorn), John (Heidi Sommer), Rose (Joe Zimmerman), Alex (Elsie Threinen), Victor (Hannah Charlotte Ewald).
