BENSON -- Donford Lloyd Matthews, 72, of 7833 Elevation Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in his home.
Mr. Matthews was a veteran and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a retired chicken farmer and attended Steven's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Richard McKeel and Michael Wilbourne. Entombment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Gloria E. Matthews; a daughter, Melinda McLamb of Benson; five sons, Marshall Matthews and Anthony Matthews, both of Erwin, Ronald Matthews of Benson, Garry Matthews of Surf City and Timmy Matthews of Willow Spring; a sister, Erdeen Harper of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
