A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 8, 2017, 2:00 PM, at the new location of First Christian Church, 502 S. Guadalupe St. (corner of Guadalupe and Bronson) with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating.
Private interment will take place in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Joel R. Harper was born September 11, 1936 in Lamesa, Texas to Walter and Ouida (Dorminy) Harper. He and his family moved to Carlsbad in the 50s and began Harper Gas and Oil. Joel married Margaret Martin July 5, 1969. He worked as a truck driver most of his life. Joel started driving for the family business and through the years he also worked for West Texas Explosives, Clardy’s Dairy, Steer Tank Liner, Nestle and most recently CAST. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Joel was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Evelyn Teague, Annie Ruth Teague and Elfreida Mosley; brothers: J.D. Harper, Edward Harper, LaRue Harper, Ewell Harper, Lucius Harper and Virgil Harper.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret Harper of Carlsbad, NM; children: Rhonda Harper of Carlsbad, NM, Gina Courter and husband, Price of San Antonio, Texas, Keevin Harper and wife, Diana of Midland, Texas, Robert Brett Thompson of Carlsbad, NM, John Scott Thompson of Carlsbad, NM and Jolie Quintana and husband, Patrick of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Kari, Dondee, Kasey, Jentry, Beau, Kylee, Weston, Lindsay, Cole, Summer, Sunnie and Olivia; great-grandchildren: Grayson, Skylynn, Korlynn, Jensynn, Jordan Marie, Benjamin, Gabriel, Luke, Bradyn, Baileigh, Nehemiah and Emberly Ann; sister, Linda Wideman and husband, Mark of Plainview, Texas and many beloved nieces and nephews.
