Richard Thomas Reeder, age 81, of Eden, Utah, succumbed peacefully from pancreatic/liver cancer on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 4 am.
Born to Jesse Charles Reeder and Margaret Edna Greenwell Reeder on February 20, 1936 in Ogden, Utah, where he lived most of his life.
Dick, as his family and friends called him, was a jack of all trades. He was an accomplished artist, mechanic, painter, scuba diver, fisherman, wood carver and loved to be in his shop with all his woodworking tools.
He enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He could fix anything from automotive to house wares. He had a passion for classic cars and had several MG's he would work on and restore. He would always say that, “The parts falling off this car are of finest British quality”. He loved to give anyone a ride in it and would drive the grandkids in the 4th of July parades almost every year.
Dick also enjoyed all the trips with friends of the Intermountain Travel Club with a membership of 25 couples. He and Velma traveled all over the United States, Hawaii and Alaska. They ventured to Canada, Japan, Panama and Mexico.
He worked at several jobs he was proud of but he loved working for the FAA as an air traffic controller at Salt Lake International Airport, Ogden Municipal Airport and Elko Nevada Airport. He loved to share his work with his kids and would take them often. He was a pilot and had a private pilot’s license.
He married Velma Mae Hamson on October 16, 1965 in Las Vegas, NV. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they remarried in the Salt Lake City temple, alongside his stepson, Steven W. Thompson and Christine Shaw, and was sealed to his daughter, Angela Reeder.

Rackham and MaKayla Rackham; stepgrandchildren: Tyler S. (Jessica) Thompson and Chad R. Thompson; and great-grandchildren: Kiera E Thompson and Owen D. Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse LaWayne Reeder, who died in the Battle of Saipan.
The family with meet with friends on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Tuesday from 10 -10:45 am at the mortuary.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
