Delmar Kohl, 84, of Lisbon, entered the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 5, 2017, surrounded by a view of his Iowa corn fields and his loving family.
Funeral Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at First Federated Church, Lisbon. Visitation from 1:30 p.m. to service time at the church. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
He leaves behind his wife, Marilyn, of Lisbon who has many more years to live and many great grandchildren to welcome into this world. Please join us in praying for her as God continues to provide and comfort for years to come.
Delmar is also survived by his children, Samuel Lee (Linda Suzanne) of Leeton, Missouri, Daniel E. (Mindy) of Lisbon, Anna Marie (Scott) Brueske of St. Paul, Minnesota, Dr. Andrew Ray (Susan) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Nathanael Earl (Lori) of Harrisburg, Missouri, and Jacob Lloyd (Paula) Kohl of Harrisonville, Missouri; grandchildren, Zachary (Stacy), Abraham (Kate), and Mark Kohl, Nicki Jo (Andrew) Cunniff, Jenna Lea (Dustin) Lenz, and Jesse (Katie) Kohl, Benjamin, Betsy, and Nicolas Brueske, Ryan, Isaac, and Maggie Kohl, Rachel (Kyle) Herrington, Bethany, Lydia, Tabitha, Rebeckah, Jessie, and Josiah Kohl, and Jonathan and Ethan Kohl; one great-grandchild, Amarah; sisters, Marilyn Crawford of York, Pennsylvania and Audrey Christenson of Mount Vernon; and many extended family members and friends.
Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; and in-laws, Bob and Lucille (Dragoo) Blood.
Delmar Lee Kohl was born July 28, 1933, in rural Cedar County, to Lloyd and Mildred (Puffer) Kohl.
He married Marilyn Blood on September 25, 1957, in Lisbon. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.
All his life, Delmar was the quintessential Iowa farmer; always a rock solid family man, loving husband and father, country gentleman who loved the Lord, the dirt beneath his feet and all things living.
As a younger man, after serving as a U.S. Marine, he began a farming and family legacy that continues to this day and stretches across multiple states. Always the "deal maker" looking for "a plan" he was a wise business man and servant of the Lord who started and operated the Hidden Lake Brigade Camp on this Iowa land with the goal of encouraging boys to mature as godly men to be “Bright and Keen” for Christ.
For the last few years Delmar waged war with dementia but even in spite of his failing body, he remained a humble soul who gave many reasons for laughter as he continued to work cattle, cultivate fields, and search for the next "plan", though only in his mind.
