Born in Philadelphia on May 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Esther (Ryan) and William Barnes. Virginia graduated from Mater Misrecordia (Merion Mercy) Academy in 1942. She graduated from Misrecordia School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked in area hospitals, and as a private duty nurse. Virginia married John J. Worthington on June 19, 1948 at St. Patrick's Church in Woodbury, NJ. She enjoyed many activities and hobbies including, volunteer work, gardening, quilt making, baking, and refinishing furniture. Her family referred to her as the "Martha Stewart of Mantua". Virginia also answered to Gin, Ginny, Mother, Grandmother, Mummsy, Maude, Derda, and Mum-Mum. She was a devout Catholic and lived her life accordingly.
A viewing will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm on Friday, October 6th, at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 7th at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ. Interment will follow at Wenonah Cemetery in Mantua, NJ.
