James Robert Douglas, 82, a native of Salt Lake City, died on March 12, 1999 at his son's home in Orange County, California.

Mr. Douglas was born on June 24, 1915 in Salt Lake, the son of Andrew Patterson and Mary Orena Glover Douglas. He attended school in the Salt Lake City Schools and graduated from South High School in 1936. On October 10, 1940 he married Maida Hanson of Shelley, Idaho. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1942.

He entered the U.S. Army in June 1943 and served with the 25th Infantry Division in New Zealand, New Caledonia, the Philippines, and Japan during the Second World War. Following the war Jim and Maida lived first on 2nd Avenue in Salt Lake where they attended the South Eighteenth Ward of the LDS Church. In 1949 they moved to South Salt Lake where they lived until 1960 when their home was displaced by the construction of the I-80 freeway. They then moved to the Millcreek First Ward where they lived for 17 years. In 1977 they moved to Orange County, California to be near their children who had settled there. Mr. Douglas worked for Kennecott Copper Company until he retired in 1972. He has served in priesthood quorums and in the scouting program in the LDS Church.

Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife and his second son, Glen Kenneth Douglas. He is survived by his son, Robert Douglas of San Jan Capistrano, California; his daughter Marsha Bown of Wehreim-Obern Germany; and sixteen grandchildren. Five of his grandsons have served missions for the LDS Church.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, where family and friends may call from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
