Martha E. Curtis or Marte, was born February 7, 1941 at her home on Highland Avenue ( the old Skehan Farm). Dr. Frank Bull loved to share the story of getting a call from Old Charlie Curtis. He thought he was going out to treat Ginny for a gallbladder attack and found her in full blown labor. He delivered her on newspapers on the couch and wrapped her (Marte) in blankets and kept her warm in the open woodstove oven until he could travel Ginny and the new baby to Gardiner General. Marte was born 2 months prematurely. She wanted to pass on the day of the (predicted) rapture September 23 and her wish came true just shortly before midnight. We knew how happy this made her.

She graduated from Gardiner High School and went on to Bates Business School. She worked as a secretary and then Executive Administrative Assistant retiring from the Bureau of Insurance State of Maine 14 years ago.

She has enjoyed gardening, The Rose Club of Maine, and following her search for spiritual fellowship. She valued flowers and wild life. Her cats and her dog Piper.

She is survived by her daughters Nena Cunningham and husband William. Ginger Roberts- Scott and husband John Scott all of West Gardiner, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. She also especially enjoyed her friends from her bible study group.

She was predeceased by her parents Howard F. Curtis and Virginia H. Curtis.

Graveside services will be at Cherry Hill Cemetery in West Gardiner.

In lieu of flowers or donations the family asks that you spend an hour in any garden enjoying the peace and tranquility nature offers and plant a flower thinking of her.(Staples Funeral Home and Central Maine Newspapers 9/27/2017)
