She was married to my great-grandfather, Alexander Joseph Stewart, not "Joseph" Stewart. Alexander and Mary Jane had moved to Kent, Washington, where he died in of sepsis after cutting his foot on an ax.
Mary Jane returned to Minnesota about 1897 with three of their children, including my grandfather Joseph Stewart.
She was not born in Nova Scotia; her Carson family emigrated from Ireland and settled in Ontario, Canada, before moving to Minnesota.
