CROGHAN, N.Y. – Alvin E. Martin, 83, of 7351 Old State Road, Croghan, NY, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Lewis County General Hospital.

The Funeral will be Friday, December 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Croghan Mennonite Church, Croghan, NY, with Rev. John Martin, Rev. Chad Atwood, Rev. Richard Zehr and Rev. Julius Moser, officiating. Spring burial will be in Conservative Mennonite Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Croghan Mennonite Church, Croghan, NY. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, NY 13367 Contributions may be made to the Croghan Mennonite Church, Kirschnerville Road, Croghan, NY .

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Elaina Martin of Croghan, NY, Peter and Cathy Martin of Lowville, NY and Harry and Mary Martin of Croghan, NY; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sara Adams of Glenfield, NY, Lou Ann Martin and her companion Arnold Widrick, Jr. of Croghan, NY and Kay M. and Lauren Lyndaker of Lowville, NY; a sister, Mable Moser of Lowville, NY; thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a son-in-law, John Adams, and two sisters, Melinda Gingerich and Rose Widrick.

Born on June 10, 1922, in the Town of Croghan, a son of the late Peter C. and Katie Steria Martin, he attended country school at Belfort. He worked on the family farm. On February 22, 1950, he married Luella M. Zehr at the Conservative Mennonite Church in Croghan, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. Mrs. Martin died June 28, 2004. Together with is wife, they purchased and operated the family farm on the Old State Road for 54 years. The family owned and operated a sugar bush for many years. In the winter Mr. Martin cut pulp. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his team of work horses, and traveling with his wife. He was a member of Croghan Mennonite Church, Croghan, NY.
