"COMPTON - W.P. Compton, an aged citizen of upper Lick Creek, died recently and was brought here Monday to his former home and buried in the family burying ground. He is survived by his widow, who also is seriously ill, and by several grown children."

His mother, Mary McDowell was born in 1829 in Blaine, Lawrence Co., KY, and died August 5, 1854 at Blaine. Mary had another child named Sarah Jane, born December 10, 1853. In 1860 and 1870, she is living with Mary's father John McDowell in Greensburg, Greenup Co., KY.
