Jean Youngblood was a City Police Officer in Troy, Alabama. He died in the line of duty at age 37. Officer Youngblood was in the process of securing a local business establishment from a man who had just robbed a Bank in a nearby town and murdered two Bank Tellers. He recieved a tip that the Bank Robber was heading into town, so he went to the Service Station in town to make sure the owner had protection. While inside, he heard a vehicle pull up in back. Officer Youngblood went to the front entrance and crouched down, as he looked outside. At the same time, the vehicle came around the front of the building and the suspect fired a single shot from a .45 caliber handgun, striking Officer Youngblood in the chest. The suspect fled, but was pursued by several Officers and Citizens. The suspect was shot and killed in a local cemetery, where he tried to hide.
