Julia Robertson Black, age 81, of Knoxville, formerly of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2017.
She was a member of Central Baptist Bearden Church, the Encouragers Sunday School class, and a former Sunday School department leader.
She was a devout Christian who loved to share her faith with family and friends.
After starting a family, she went back to school at the University of Tennessee where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
After receiving her degree, she taught special education in the Knoxville school system for over 25 years.
She was a devoted and loving wife, grandmother, sister, friend, and a determined and natural teacher; but most of all, she was a compassionate and caring mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Tom Robertson.
Julia is survived by her husband, John D. Black; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank Riddick (Sheila); her daughter, Belinda Scruggs; her grandchildren, Daniel Riddick, Thomas Riddick, and Sarah Scruggs; her stepchildren, Kathy Baker and Mike and Gary Black; her sister, Tommye Abbott, and her special “sister”, Karen Trybone.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, September 21, at 1:30 pm at Central Baptist Bearden with Reverend Mark Moreland and Reverend Christopher Hogan officiating.
There will be a visitation preceding the service from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm and the interment to Edgewood Cemetery to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made out to Central Bearden Baptist Church, 6300 Deane Hill Dr. Knoxville, TN 37919.
