Billy S. “Bill” Chapman of Winchester, Virginia died September 17, at home.
Mr. Chapman was born January 25, 1927 in Rockingham County. He is the son of Ervin Lee Chapman and Louise Summers Chapman. He married Betty Nell Lambert, August 2, 1947 in Dayton, Virginia. They had been married 65 years when she died in July, 2012. He is survived by a son Michael L. Chapman of Frederick County, Virginia: A daughter, Molly L. Chapman of Winchester: two grandchildren, Kelly S. Chapman; Sarah A. Marion and her husband John: two great grandchildren, one sister, Geraldine Huddle of Falls Church, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother Ervin L. Chapman Jr. and a sister, Rhonda J. Hottle.
Bill graduated from Dayton High School, attended Maryland University and graduated from Columbia Tech. e served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He came to Winchester in 1950 with Schewel Furniture Company and then became associated with Canter O8il Company in 1964. He acquired a Virginia Real Estate license about that time. After retiring from the petroleum, business, he became a realtor with Century 21 Braddock. Bill was also the owner of Slonaker Coal Company.
Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester and the Winchester Kiwanis Club, a member of both for over 50 years. Through the years, he was involved in many local activities. He was a former member of the Industrial Development Authority, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the Winchester Social Service Board. He had also been active in scouting and little league programs.
A funeral service will be held at Jones Funeral Home at 11:00 am. on Thursday, September 21st. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Lacey Spring Cemetery in Lacey Spring, Virginia following the service.
