Nancy Mittendorf (nee Coleman), age 88 passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 surrounded by her family at the home of her granddaughter, Kristin and her husband Chris’s home. Kristin had been Nancy’s caregiver for the past 5 years.
She was born on February 14, 1929 in Lorain, Ohio to Ralph and Marie (nee Deutchlander) and was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1947 A.
Upon her completion of high school Nancy went to work at Ohio Edison, where she met her husband. After marrying she made her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and 4 children.
Nancy was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lorain. She and her late husband, Robert, were very instrumental with the food program at the church.
She loved playing pinochle with the Happy Hearts Pinochle Club, a club that was started with a group of high school girls that continued on through marriages, children, and grandchildren. Camping was also something that Nancy and her husband Robert loved to do. They were members of both the Holiday Ramblers and Lamplighters Camping Clubs. Bowling, reading, and crafting were also hobbies that Nancy enjoyed.
Nancy will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and her wonderful laugh.
She is survived by her children, Lori (Roy) Gale, of Wakeman, Robert Mittendorf, of Apple Valley, MN, Jill (Michael) Hawkinberry, of Amherst, and Joel Mittendorf, of Macon, GA; 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert, in 2001; parents, Ralph and Marie Coleman; and siblings, Robert Coleman, Shirley Jones, Betty O’Keefe, and John “Al” Coleman.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH 44001. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Rev. Rosalina Rivera will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
