Robert J.Mittendorf
Robert J. Mittendorf, 70, of
Amherst, died Monday at New
Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph
following a one-year illness.
Born in Lorain, he was a lifelong resident and served in the
Naval Reserve for 18 years from
1948 to 1967.
He was employed by Ohio Edison for 45 years before retiring as
an area supervisor in 1994.
He also was a volunteer fireman for 35 years serving Black
River Township and Amherst. He
retired as captain in 1987 from
the Amherst Fire Department.
Mr. Mittendorf was a member
of First Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Lorain and the Church
Council. He served as an usher,
and a member of the Property
Committee and Commodities
Committee of the church.
He also was a member the
Amherst Golf League and was an
avid camper with memberships
in the Buckeye Travelers and
Lamplighters camping clubs. He
had been a Boy Scout volunteer
and enjoyed woodworking and
woodcarving.
Survivors include his wife of
50 years, Nancy (nee Coleman);
sons Robert M. of Eagen, Minn.,
and Joel D. of Columbus, Ga.;
daughters Lori A. Gale of Wakeman and Jill M. Hawkinberry of
Amherst; nine grandchildren;
one great-granddaughter; three
step grandchildren; five step
great-grandchildren; and a sister,
Norma Ruebel of Miami, Fla.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Frank and Julia (nee
Nather); and a brother, Harold.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to
9 p.m. Thursday at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m.
Friday at First Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Sixth Street
and Washington Avenue, Lorain.
The Rev. Dr. Lin wood H. Chamberlain Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill
Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
Memorials may be made to the
