Thomas was the son of Samuel Mounts & Sarah Anderson. He married Mary Scott. Came to Indiana as a child with Samuel and Sarah to the Clark Grant in 1801, later Clark County Indiana. After Marrying Mary Scott, Samuel and Thomas bought land in Bartholomew County, near Columbus, and moved there in 1820. Thomas and Mary had 14 children and built a large farm near the Railroad. He and two others platted the first addition to Columbus in 1851 known as the Irwin Jones Mounts addition, as well as donating a small part of his farm in 1839, as a burying ground and Methodist Episcopal church, later, Carter's Chapel and cemetery , now Carters cemetery. Carters Chapel was still standing in 1914, when it lost half of its roof to a wind storm, no record of the church after this date.
