Jerry Wayne Merchant was born on October 12, 1963 in Madison County, Texas to Oscar Bill Byrd and Robbie Lynn Merchant. He was the ninth of 11 children. Jerry accepted Christ early in life and united with Lakeview Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas. He later became a member of Pool Chapel Baptist Church. He was raised in Madisonville, Texas and attended Madisonville Senior High. He later attended Mainland College of Galveston, Texas. He married Mally Srirasa. This union was blessed with two children. Jerry joined the United States Army. He also worked as a correctional officer, Walmart and Valero.
