Ronald Dean Casey , of Simpsonville, SC, died Saturday, September 9, in the loving arms of his wife, Marta at the young age of 72.

Ron, or Ronnie, as those close to him called him, was born on December 4, 1944, to Tressie Compton Casey and Robert James Casey, in Spartanburg, SC. He was the youngest of five children. Siblings: Robert (Bobby), Judith Ann, Mirnie and Charles.

Ronnie attended Spartanburg High School, graduating in 1963. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, and deployed to Vietnam on the USS Intrepid.

After serving his country, he returned home and attended college at Georgia Southern University, where he was an active member of Delta Tau Delta and developed a love for the musical genre known as Southern Rock.

Upon graduating from Georgia Southern, Ronnie began his career in Birmingham, Alabama, where he made a name for himself as a business leader and upstanding member in the community. During his 30+ years in Birmingham, he adopted the University of Alabama as his SEC team of choice.

Ronnie retired more than once, but never could sit still for long. During his last "un-retirement" stint he worked for the Social Security Administration. His job took him to Miami, FL, were he met and wed Marta Aballi, who had become the love of his life.

Marta and Ron's tenure with the SSA took them back to Birmingham, AL; to Falls Church, VA; and finally to Greenville, SC, where they retired in a beautiful house in a lovely neighborhood in Simpsonville where you could see cows from the sunroom; the senior center where he played his bi-weekly poker games was a short drive away.

In his short 72 years, Ronnie collected friends from all walks of life, who will love and miss him dearly.

He is survived by wife Marta; daughter Marissa (Brad) of Atlanta, GA; stepson Ralph Aballi (Zaira) and stepdaughter Cristina Lopez (Marcos), both of Miami, FL; nephew Jamie Bishop, sisters Judy (JD) and Mickie (Fred), and brother Mike (Judy) of the Spartanburg, SC area. His four grandchildren, Alexandra, Elise, Carissa, and Vincent, were the light of his life.

Ronnie was welcomed on the other side by his oldest brother, Robert J. Casey (Bobby), whom he admired greatly; his beloved Aunt Eloise (Jiggs) and Uncle Elmer; dear friend Jerry Justice; his parents; and numerous friends and family.

Ronnie's loved ones will receive friends and family on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Cannon Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will follow in Cannon Memorial Park.
