MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Linda B. Bonnette, 70, died on Sept. 5, 2017, at Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport, North Carolina.

The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life service at a later date.

Linda was born on Aug. 30, 1947, in Sumter, to her parents, Charles Hubert and Mattie Barkley Bonner. Upon graduating high school, Linda attended Winthrop University and received her Bachelor of Arts in education in 1969. She began her teaching career at Pickens Jr. High in South Carolina as the eighth grade language arts teacher. In 1972, she accepted a position in Saluda, where she taught at Hollywood High School and Riverside Middle School. To say that teaching was her passion would be quite the understatement. She returned to university where she obtained her master's in education from Francis Marion University in 1997. In 1978, she accepted a position at Central High School in Pageland and taught there until 1999 when she moved to Monroe High School in Monroe, North Carolina, to teach English I. In 2004, she accepted her final teaching position at West Carteret High School, retiring in 2012 after serving 43 years in the education industry.

Linda also had many achievements during her teaching career: She sat as the English chairperson for Central High School from 1989 until 1999; she served as liaison with the Essential Schools Organization and was selected as an Essential Schools Team member twice; she coauthored Modular English for English I while at Monroe High School; served as president of Saluda County Education Association; served on the Christian Education Committee in Monroe from 1990 until 2003; and served on the Monroe HS School Improvement Team from 1999 until 2002, to name a few.

Linda was also very active in her communities, serving as a Cub master, Boy Scout leader and charter representative of the Boy Scouts of America; a serving member of Beta Sigma Phi; and she held memberships with the National Education Association, Saluda County Education Association, the South Carolina Educational Association, Chesterfield County Education Association and the Union County Educations Association.
