Walter A. Baumann 85, Marathon, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at his home. He was born February 18, 1921 in the town of Emmet, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Karl) Baumann. On September 25, 1943, he married Mary Ann Furger at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives. Walter was a dairy and ginseng farmer for many years in the Marathon area. While farming, he also worked for Menzner's and drove bus for Knauf Bus Service. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. Among his many interests, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include, his wife, Mary Ann Baumann, Marathon; six children, Janice (Jerry) Gage, Marathon, Dennis (Gail) Baumann, Rib Mountain, Laurence (Elaine) Baumann, River Falls, Floyd (Sandee) Baumann, Marathon, Lloyd Baumann, Marathon and Sandy (Doug) Borchardt, Marathon; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Art (Joan) Baumann, Edgar and one sister Irene Dalsky, Spokane, Wash. and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Baumann, Coleville, Wash. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. The funeral mass will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
