Thomas Jewett was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, May 8, 1790. He married January 9, 1817, Elizabeth Lord, who was born in Somersworth, New Hampshire, March 1, 1790, daughter of Edwin Lord. They settled in South Berwick, Maine, where he was a merchant and where he died June 5, 1864.

Charles Cogswell, born January 3, 1831; married Annie Freeland.

Funeral of Dr. Jewett
The funeral of the late Dr. Charles C. Jewett took place yesterday from his residence, No. 21 Clinton Street, Brooklyn. Deceased was born in Augusta, Maine, fifty-six years ago. During the war, he was surgeon of an infantry regiment of Maine. Settling in Brooklyn years ago, Dr. Jewett attained a remunerative practice and married a daughter of the late Revenue Collector Freeland. He was at one time the visiting physician at the Brooklyn Hospital.

Dr. Charles Cogswell Jewett was born in South Berwick, Maine, January 3, 1831. He married in Brooklyn, New York, in 1863, Annie Freeland, who was born in Brooklyn in 1841, daughter of James and Caroline (Bowman) Freeland. Dr. Jewett graduated from Dartmouth College and was appointed August 1, 1861, surgeon of the Sixteenth Massachusetts Regiment and served during the Civil War. He was in command of the Hospital at Hampton Roads and performed the first successful amputation at the hip joint during the war. After the war he settled in Holliston, Massachusetts and removed to Brooklyn, New York, where he was a member of the Brooklyn Board of Health, having charge of the Diet Dispensary. Was also chief medical examiner of the Home Life Insurance Company of New York. Dr. Jewett was an accomplished gentleman of the old school. He died April 1884. His wife died in 1871.
Child: Freeland, born in Holliston, Massachusetts, May 28, 1865; married in 1884, at Brooklyn, New York, Maggie Kelland of Brooklyn, daughter of Philip and Margaret (Major) Kelland. Mr. Jewett is the proprietor of the New England Pipe and Cement Co., of Boston. Residence, Brookline, Massachusetts. One child, Arthur, born in Brooklyn, New York, October 13, 1886.
