Mary Jane Paulk Hoyt
1922 - 2017

Early Life: Mary Jane was born November 25*, 1922, in Amarillo, Texas, to Claude Joshua and Mary Jane Gibson Paulk. She was always proud to have been named after her mother. When she was 11, she moved with her mother and three brothers to Los Angeles, California, where she attended junior high and high school.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: When Mary Jane was 19, she, her mother and older brother, Arthur, were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Two years later, in October 1944, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she met her sweetheart, Milton Hoyt, who was stationed there in the 11th Army Air Corp during World War II. They were married February 28, 1946, in the St. George Utah LDS Temple. Mary Jane and Milton taught their four children to love each other and work hard in the large vegetable and fruit gardens around their homes in Utah, Idaho and on their small farm in Washington. She was a support to Milton in his career as a school teacher, principal and later, as a professor at the University of Puget Sound. She enjoyed serving in the Church as a visiting teacher and as a teacher in Primary and Relief Society. She especially enjoyed being a temple worker together with Milton in the Seattle and St. George LDS Temples. Mary Jane said that her life was greatly enriched by her deep faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She often expressed her love for the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who led her by the hand each step of the way, especially after Milton’s passing in 2010. She spoke often of her hope for a wonderful reunion with her sweetheart and with all those she loved so much who had passed on before her. Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away September 9, 2017, in her daughter’s home in Springville, Utah.
Survived By: Her children: Calvin (Chris) Hoyt, Hyde Park, Utah; Mary (Marvin) Gardner, Springville, Utah; Daniel Hoyt, Payson, Utah; Chuck (Brenda) Hoyt, Puyallup, Washington; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
