Benjamin purchased 387 acres in West Caln Twp in 1734 from his uncle Samuel Lewis. He conveyed this property to his father in 1736 and on the same date received from his parents the homestead in Middletown, with 150 acres of the original survey and a tract of 9 acres on the west side of Chester Creek in Aston Twp. He built a stone house in 1753, a little east from the first dwelling. This home, along with an addition made by grandson, Jesse Darlington, in 1802, became Jesse's home.
In Benjamin's will, dated 2 mo 10, 1785, he named his wife, and children Benjamin (deceased); Edith Ferris; Joshua; Aaron; Amy; Hannah; Hester; Sarah Sharples; Rebecca; Samuel; also daughter-in-law Elizabeth Sharples and her son Benjamin. He had 8 surviving children.
