Frederick Carder Siple, 93, of Fort Ashby passed away Friday, Septemebr 8, 2017 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born June 30, 1924 at Laurel Dale, WV, he was the son of the late Preston Todd (PT) Siple and Edna (Carder) Siple. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Iris Louise Siple and Sarah Kathryn (Siple) Gortner and her husband John.

Fred, a decorated WWII veteran, served in the U.S. Army from March of 1943 until February 1946. He was a charter member of Fort Ashby Post 6667. Fred was Past Master of Clinton Lodge #86, A.F. & A.M., Romney and a member in good standing for over 50 years.

After his Army discharge, Fred worked briefly at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland. He returned to the family farm in Fort Ashby and farmed full time until his retirement, where he continued to pass on his vast knowledge of cattle and crops to his friends and family.

He will be greatly missed by his surviving family members: Brother Arthur L. Siple and wife Eileen (Isner) Siple,Fort Ashby; two nephews, Preston L. Siple and wife Un Suk (Chong) Siple, Milford, CA and Sidney L. Siple and wife Cynthia (Harvey) Siple, Montpelier, VA; three nieces, Teresa E. Siple, Tooele, UT, Patricia (Gortner) Marseglia and husband Paul, Arlington, VA, and Suzanne (Gortner) Daubner and husband, Glen Dale, VA.

There will be a private interment at Fort Ashby Cemetery.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, at a date to be announced,
